Isuwa hydropower project (97.2 MW) affected Indigenous Peoples (Yamphu, Sherpa, Kulung) and local communities in protest for the past 3 years since the power company has violated their rights to lands and resources.

The power company called 'KBRN Iswa Ltd ' did not provide project information and did not ensure participation of affected communities in the decision making process. The affected communities carried out a series of protests demanding FPIC, benefit sharing and fair compensation of the land and forest resources that are encroached by the project.

In December 29, 2019, the company and affected communities reached an agreement to settle down the issues of benefit sharing and compensation, but has not been materialized yet. Again, the affected communities have started protesting the project demanding the implementation of the agreement from 13 January 2021.

The project is located in the Makalu Rural Municipality -1 Walung, Shankahuwasabha district, Province No. 1.
