Closed Interaction with Special Rapporteur on Minority Issues

Closed Interaction with Special Rapporteur on the Minority Issues was held on 29 March 2017 at Hotel Himalaya, Kathmandu. Leaders, scholars and representatives of minority communities attended the programme. Programme was divided into two parts. In the first part, situation and discrimination faced by linguistic, religious, indigenous peoples & women and IDP was delivered by four scholars respectively;

  1. Dr. Krishna Bhattachan ,
  2. Prof. Bijay Kanta Karna
  3. Dr. Chandra K. Sherma
  4. Dr. Netra Mani DumiRai

 Following this, broad interaction was held where participants put forward discrimination which has been facing by their respective communities. In response, Special Rapporteur expressed her gratitude and commitment to protect and promote of the rights of minority communities. Special Rapporteur Ms. Rita IZsa'k is currently in Nepal for unofficial visit. Lawyers' Association for Human Rights of Indigenous Peoples (LAHURNIP) coordinated the programme with the assistance of UNDP Country Office, Nepal.
