Lawyers' Association for Human Rights of Nepalese Indigenous Peoples (LAHURNIP) has submitted petition to National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on 16 March 2017 in relation to adverse affect in the health of local residents by Birat Poultry Farm.  The aforementioned poultry farm was established four years back in the residential area of Sorhabhaga VDC, Morang.  Due to lack of proper management of sanitation, the surrounding areas have become very stinky and house-flies have spread everywhere. As a result, approximately 4,000 households from Rangeli Municipality, Sorhabhaga, Darbeshaha and Baniya VDC-3 are about to displace from their traditional homeland.

Following are some demands made to the NHRC:

  • Conduct field visit of affected area and poultry farm immediately.
  • Recommend the action against human rights violators as per the law.
  • Initiate to stop displacement of local people immediately and for guarantee of right to life in clean environment, and economic, and socio-cultural life.
