On February 4, 2017 around 1 pm a bulldozer came to Gurjudhara, Satungal area, along with officials from Kathmandu Valley Development Authority (KVDA) and started to demolish the Pharmacy owned by Mr. Ashok Kaji Shakya in the heavy presence of police force. Mr. Shakya tried to oppose and asked they can't do so as the Supreme Court has issued interim order and wanted to show the very document. However, he couldn't enter his house as the bulldozer already demolished the staircase. He was beaten up, handcuffed and taken to the Thankot Police Bit. In the mean time, large number of local residents came to the street and strongly resisted. They were in the terrified situation that they may lose their houses indiscriminately. Lawyers' Association for Human Rights of Nepalese Indigenous Peoples (LAHURNIP) monitored the incident. LAHURNIP inquired to Police authority at Thankot Police Bit in relation to Mr. Shakya's custody. Police informed that Mr. Shakya was taken in control for his own security and was released later. However, police did not provide the paper.
Government, KVDA and police force have not been found respecting the order of Supreme Court and showing absolute cruelty and inhumanity. This is the sheer violation of rule of law and rights of Indigenous Peoples (IPs).
