In, 11 Feb. 2022, the division bench, presided by Hon'ble justices Shree Harikrishna Karki and Ishwor Prasad Khatiwada issued an order against the Government of Nepal et al. to formulate a Study Committee to investigate adverse impacts against the writ petitioners and environment caused by the Solu Hydro Project. The project is planned in the lands of indigenous peoples that adversely impacts to the Indigenous and local communities in the location. The affected peoples have lodged a writ Petition in 2019 in the Supreme Court of Nepal.
According to the order of the court decision, the committee further mandated to identify exact numbers of affected households by the projects and to explore alternatives to mitigate adverse impacts and safeguard lives those affected. The Study Committee should comprise the representatives of the following:
- Technical Engineer (Gazetted First Class Officer) of the Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Ministry (Coordinator)
- Joint Secretary of the Forest and Environmental Ministry (Member)
- Nepal Electricity Authority (Assistant Manager)
